This space has been neglected way too long, so I thought I would start using it to keep the boys moving forward during the summer and to keep me accountable and not let the summer get away from me. If I post to "you all" I might not give up on the really bad days. (even if no one is looking, they might be and that is enough for me.)
So, today we started summer homeschool by completing a couple worksheets to work on writing and phonics (downloaded from teacher pay teacher Lavinia Pop. ) Then, we played with some learning apps on the ipad, and I downloaded a couple more math apps. We also downloaded The Human Body by Tinybop and used that as a science lesson. The boys were pretty intrigued with it (especially the digestive system--ya know, poop) and paired with Outside In, we will have fun for the rest of the summer learning about the body.
We also went on a field trip to Office Max for some new notebooks and pencils, and I plan on utilizing a journal with them.
I am sure I will discuss more of my ideas, philosophy and ups and downs as we start this journey, but I want to make it clear that I am no "tiger mom." We will be doing a lot of playing, watching TV, goofing around and sleeping in, but they need to keep what they have learned and hopefully move forward as they enter first grade. (I am sure I will share more on that as well. I am not trying to outdo anyone. I am trying to make sure they don't fall behind.)
My least favorite part of the day: A certain boy whining within two minutes of starting.
My favorite part of the day: When this same boy called me his, "first-first grade teacher." :-D
