2 Hours Traffic

Flooding 2009

We are not getting it nearly as bad as Northern MN and ND, but we have some pretty dramatic flooding going on around here.

These are of the Sauk River.  The Sauk empties into the Mississippi (about 1 to 2miles from where these photos were taken.)  Most of the homes seem OK. Some had sandbags, some people were loading their basements into trailers, but most homes along the Sauk seemed OK, but we are not expected to crest here until Sunday. 

Antons, one of our favorite places to eat in the area, is not fairing well.  They have been around since the days of Prohibition and have been through this before a few times, so I know they will be back up and running ASAP, but it still makes be sad. I hope our booth is OK. They have a couple of covered wagon booths in the restaurant that people write all over (with their permission).  The night before I was induced with the boys, we went there to eat.  We wrote on the wagon cover, Welcome Baby A and Baby B, December 4th, 2007. Plus, they make the BEST wild rice (full of garlic and butter). I CRAVE it.

We are about three blocks from the Sauk River.  We are not in a flood plain, but this park is only about a mile from our house.

     

RSV x2 and Ear Infections x2

It has been a rough couple of weeks.  Both boys have been sick.  I've been sick.  Well, actually, it has been a really rough winter.  I have never been to sick so often.  We just keep passing it back and forth.

We are finally on the mend, again.  The boys have antibiotics and neb treatments, and I only have a lingering cough.  It doesn't help that my sleep was pretty minimal for a few days.  Kian had a really hard time sleeping, and he is usually a great sleeper.

Here is a picture of Sicky #1  (FInn) last weekend...right before the worst of it hit early last week.  You can see he looks pretty dazed and clingy.

 

I was also asked to take a couple quicky portraits.  I only brought my brown roll of paper and hung it up in my my sister-in-law's breezeway.  All natural light...still my favorite.

Fee Fi Fo Fum...I smell the blood of an Irishman

...is one of their favorite games to play with Mommy.  So, my little Irishmen wish you a Happy Saint Patrick's Day! 

Saint Patrick's Day will always mean a lot to us.  We hope to share their heritage with them and our love of everything Irish, but even more meaningful is that this was Beckett's estimated due date. He would be two years old if he was born on time and it was also two years ago today (tomorrow actually) that we held his memorial.  I hope to share that with the boys some day too.

Anyway, these are still starter photos. I  need to get that reflector. That will help immensely.  I am a little sleep deprived, The last few nights Kian thinks I need to spend the hours between 10:30 and 1:00 trying to get him back to sleep and giving in and rocking/holding him for an hour until he is done cuddling.  I am hoping we can nip this in the bud soon. I have to admit, I like cuddling with him, but I also NEED my sleep.  I am a sorry excuse for a mommy/teacher/wife/friend etc...when I don't get some decent rest.

So, here is an Irish toast to Kian....may he sleep well and have pleasant dreams of Mommy holding him tight.

Well, we are finally back up and running. I should be back on a once to twice a week update again.  Sorry for the disappearance.  Wedding processing, sickness, end of the trimester at school...all led to adjustment of priority.

Anyway, during my absence, we had some big packages come in the mail.  I now have a small at home studio. I have a lot (really HUGE amounts) to learn.  If anyone is interested, I got an Alien Bee setup and the savage stand with some paper rolls.  I did a little fabric shopping today too.  I still need a reflector and stand, so I had to use a window today. Here are some of the first beginner shots:
